SAP Release Management Technical Expert
Our customer is currently searching for an external SAP Release Management Technical Expert who plays a central role in ensuring the stability, consistency, and quality of SAP solution delivery across Maintenance and Project landscapes.
This role is accountable for technically validating all SAP releases (Minor, Monthly, Emergency), ensuring alignment with the SAP CoE framework, quality gates defined in your release governance model. The expert collaborates closely with AMS teams, Technical Architecture, Basis, Developers, Functional Leads, and Project Teams and his deputy for APAC and AMER region. He/she will report to the SAP COE release and Demand manager.
Note : As SAP Major release are taking place on Sunday early morning it is expected for this position about 6 Sunday morning work per year.
Role Overview
The SAP Release Management Technical Expert plays a central role in ensuring the stability, consistency, and quality of SAP solution delivery across Maintenance and Project landscapes.
This role is accountable for technically validating all SAP releases (Minor, Monthly, Emergency), ensuring alignment with the SAP CoE framework, quality gates defined in your release governance model.
The expert collaborates closely with AMS teams, Technical Architecture, Basis, Developers, Functional Leads, and Project Teams and his deputy for APAC and AMER region.
He will report to the SAP COE release and Demand manager.
Nota : As SAP Major release are taking place on Sunday early morning it is expected for this position about 6 Sunday morning work per year.
Key Responsibilities:
1. Technical Validation & Quality Gate Management
– Perform technical assessments on transports, dependencies, retrofit needs, and cross domain impact.
– Ensure compliance with architectural rules, integration constraints, security recommendations, and Basis prerequisites.
– Validate release content readiness using checklists.
2. Retrofit & Dual Landscape Synchronization
– Support and maintain the SAP Retrofit Process used to sync maintenance and project
– Identify conflicts in objects impacted by changes, automate synchronization workflows, and coordinate with DEV Leads and AMS Domain Leads.
3. Technical Coordination Across SAP Domains
– Collaborate with SAP AMS domain leads (Finance, Retail, Supply Chain, MDM, BI, Security, Basis) and Projects leads
– Act as the technical liaison between ongoing projects and the RUN organization to ensure smooth handovers and landscape stability.
4. Release Risk & Issue Management
– Track release risks, defects, and mitigation actions.
– Drive post release reviews, root cause analysis, and continuous improvement of release Technical governance.
5. Documentation, KPIs & Communication
– Maintain technical documentation: release runbooks, checklists, CAB forms, transport logs, decision sheets.
– Validate release scope, cut over plans, and post deployment status to IT stakeholders.
– Contribute to quality dashboards and QoS follow ups used in SAP CoE recurring reviews.
Required Technical Skills
– Deep expertise in SAP transport management (CTS+, ChaRM, CALM optional), landscape design, and multi system synchronization.
– Strong knowledge of SAP ABAP development and cross domain technical impacts (Integration, Security, Basis, ABAP/Enhancements).
– Solid understanding of SAP best practices in release technical governance
– Experience with dual landscape retrofit processes (functional and technical retrofit logic).
– Familiarity with monitoring, automation, and support KPIs.
